SIP is an acronym for Session Initiation Protocol. SIP is a signaling protocol and is best understood in the context of what it enables. SIP is already widely used as the protocol of choice for much of the world's VoIP (Voice over IP) products and services. Its applications however extend beyond VoIP to include video conferencing, multimedia, instant messaging, gaming and more. SIP is often heralded as the future of telecommunications.
SIPcenter.org aims to disseminate information on the SIP protocol to developers and end-users to promote the adoption of open, interoperable standards for next-generation telecommunication products and services.
